Zero-ticket infrastructure: The DevX Terraform journey for empowering developers

Tired of infrastructure requests piling up in your ticket queue? Learn how we built self-service Terraform templates in Backstage, empowering developers to provision secure, compliant AWS infrastructure instantly - zero tickets required.

CEST

Infrastructure requests should not require tickets and weeks of waiting. The team built a self-service AWS platform using Backstage, Terraform, and Jenkins that lets developers provision resources on demand.

The stack includes Backstage for the developer portal, Terraform for infrastructure as code, Jenkins for CI/CD pipelines, Vault for secrets, and Bitbucket for version control. The team converted common AWS resources, such as S3 and IAM, into reusable Terraform modules, exposed them as Backstage templates, and automated provisioning through Jenkins. Developers fill out a form, and infrastructure is live in minutes, tagged, compliant, and production-ready.

Results include reduced infrastructure tickets and faster delivery. This session covers module design, Backstage integration, guardrails, and real metrics from the journey.
