Scaling Kubernetes in regulated environments through platform APIs

This talk explores platform decisions when adopting Kubernetes and how API-driven abstractions help manage risk, reduce operational complexity, and prevent fragmentation in regulated environments.

CEST

Kubernetes often enters organizations as a technical solution, but its long-term impact is shaped by platform decisions made long before scale is reached. In regulated environments, these decisions are constrained not only by engineering concerns, but also by risk containment, upgradeability, and auditability.

This session focuses on identifying the points where direct Kubernetes exposure begins to couple teams, slow upgrades, and increase operational risk. It discusses concrete decision boundaries for introducing platform APIs, how intent-based interfaces limit blast radius during runtime and security updates, and where abstraction helps or hurts platform evolution. The goal is to provide practical guidance for platform teams designing for continuous change rather than static deployments.
