In 2017 both Sr. Sysadmins at a small startup retired and the burden of DevOps fell to a single high-school engineer. With a rapidly growing product and few infrastructure engineering resources, there was a clear need for a non-traditional DevOps setup, and so an early IDP was born.
Talk abstract

This talk is a deep dive into how a small engineering team handled rapid scale and extreme team changes in a pre-Kubernetes world through platform engineering. I'll share the reasons we developed an Internal Developer Platform, how we built it, and how we migrated all engineers to this platform while adding a new cloud region every month.
