Containers: Where we came from and where the future's taking us

The past ten years have seen a dramatic revolution in how software is developed, packaged, and run. While vast improvements have been made, there's still a lot of opportunity ahead. In this talk, we'll recap this rising abstraction and talk about where the future might take us.
Talk abstract

Ten years ago, Docker introduced an easy-to-use developer experience to build, share, and run containerized applications. Since then, the industry has been completely revolutionized. While cloud-native development has made advanced tooling and capabilities more accessible, application complexity has continued to rise. If the goal is to help developers write and ship applications, there is a lot of work to be done.

In this lightning talk, we’ll explore history to set the stage and discuss how we got to where we are, before diving into what the future may hold. We’ll cover how to build a secure software supply chain, other efforts that might “disrupt” the container space such as Wasm, and explain how they might fit in.
