Talk abstract

Platforms are taking the software industry by storm! They provide reusable capabilities that customers can build functionality on top of that enables faster speed to market while providing cost savings. Many companies are realizing the benefits and shifting their focus to building platforms instead of siloed applications. One challenge is moving from a siloed mindset to a Platform mindset. It’s easy to create something new, but it is harder to reuse something that already exists as it requires exploration, collaboration, and in some cases, extension.

One way to help shift the culture mindset to platforms is to create a platform Community of Practice (COP). It brings together key force multipliers across a company (e.g. Architects, Platform Leads, Lead Engineers) to collaborate and align on platforms. The COP enables Platform Leads to avoid reinventing the wheel by sharing common platform patterns across Platform Teams, enabling them to reuse and deliver solutions to market faster. It also identifies opportunities for innersourcing and extending existing platforms. Come join this session to learn more about how you can create a Platform Community of Practice to transform your company culture into a platform mindset!
